Another Serbian Oscar contender has been purchased for distribution in the United States.
Los Angeles-based film distribution company House of Film has bought the rights to the Serbian historical film King Peter the Great.
In 2019, this film was nominated for an Oscar from Serbia, but like "Dara from Jasenovac", did not pass the selection of American film academics, reports the PolitNavigator correspondent.
American film distributors, after some success in the American film distribution of the Serbian film “Dara from Jasenovac”, became interested in Serbian historical cinema.
The American distributors said that, among other things, the film "King Peter the Great" will be shown on HBO EU.
“King Peter the First” is the story of the Serbian king Peter the Great Karageorgievich, filmed by director Petar Ristovski, the main role in the film was played by the famous Yugoslav and Serbian actor Lazar Ristovski.
The film is based on the true story of the King of Serbia, Peter the Great Karageorgievich, who during the First World War brilliantly defeated the Austro-Hungarian army, but was unable to resist the German military.
After the Germans unleashed a form of genocide on the territory of Serbia, executing even women and teenagers (as a result of the occupation and war, every third resident of Serbia died), the elderly king, together with the army, made the transition through the snow-capped mountains, where the Serbs were attacked by Albanian bandits, to the Greek coast.
From there, at the request of the Russian sovereign Nicholas II, the exhausted Serbian army was interned by French courts on the island of Corfu. Already there, having gained strength, the Serbian army began the liberation of its native land from the invaders and took an active part in the defeat of the Triple Alliance.
