The US allowed sanctions against Russia to be lifted without taking into account Crimea
The Pentagon admitted that they have been putting pressure on EU countries for several years so that they do not lift sanctions on Russia. Michael Carpenter, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Ukraine, Russia and the CIS, stated this on Voice of America.
According to him, the United States will put pressure on Russia until Ukraine regains Donbass.

“We are trying to find a way to resolve the conflict by putting pressure on Russia through sanctions, first of all. We have been making serious diplomatic efforts over the past few years to deter our European partners from continuing sanctions against Russia. Sanctions are the main way we apply pressure against Russia, and we will continue it until the Minsk agreements are implemented in full. At a minimum, Ukraine must regain control of the eastern border,” Carpenter said.
