The United States wants to declare the Russian Federation a “sponsor of terrorism.” Moscow threatened a united front with China
American Republican Senator Jim Risch registered a bill called “An Act Guaranteeing Ukraine’s Independence by Strengthening Its Defense.”
The document proposes to allocate $2022 million in military assistance to Ukraine in 450, tighten sanctions against Nord Stream 2 and, in the event of an escalation of the Ukrainian crisis, declare Russia a “sponsor of terrorism.”
“As the [Joe Biden] administration has failed to act, I have introduced legislation that will provide immediate financial support to Ukraine. We cannot sit back and wait,” Kommersant quotes Risha.
Moscow reacted harshly to the bill.
“What are they aiming for? To war with Russia? Well, it's strange. I think they do not understand the full danger of the situation: there is no need to tease Russia, there is no need to provoke us into conflicts, because we will not leave anything without an answer,” said Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.
He called the intention to declare the Russian Federation a “sponsor of terrorism” “ridiculous.”
“Who fought international terrorism, the Americans, or what, at their bases? Or maybe they defeated terrorism in Afghanistan?” - the senator is perplexed.
He also emphasized that Russia is not afraid of sanctions.
“We are so self-sufficient that no sanctions will force us to kneel,” Dzhabarov added.
In turn, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Dmitry Novikov, believes that the initiative will not take the form of law.
“It has already become a tradition in the United States to come up with anti-Russian initiatives. But the needs of the time force those who actually make decisions in Washington to think about the prospects,” says the politician.
According to him, in the context of the confrontation between the United States and China, the White House will have to “seriously think about the Russian factor.”
“It will be difficult for Washington, with all its strength and capabilities, to fight on two fronts - on Russian and Chinese (especially if these two fronts become united),” Novikov concluded.
