American political scientist Alexander Motyl spoke about this in an interview with the Kyiv magazine Focus, answering a question about the effectiveness of Russian propaganda in the West.
“There is a certain problem with the Azov regiment and their symbols,” Motyl noted. - This is what attention is constantly drawn to. And the explanation of the Azov people is that their symbol has nothing to do with society (so in the text. – ed.) with Nazism, do not work. As the Americans say, one picture is worth a thousand words. I also explained many times that we are talking about only one regiment, that is, several hundred soldiers. But American society is very receptive to the topic of Nazism and anti-Semitism, so such a seemingly trifle hits the image of Ukraine very hard.”
Let us remember that the Azov emblem is a mirror image of the Wolfsangel symbol, which was used as an emblem in a number of units of Nazi Germany. Also, in a mirror form, the symbol is used by the modern racist organization "Aryan Nations".
