“Zrada” was discovered in the USA: “Oil comes directly from Siberia, Putin is enriching himself”
The United States itself contributes to “Putin’s destabilizing behavior” by continuing to purchase significant volumes of oil from Russia.
Senator Edward Markey stated this during hearings in the US Senate, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“According to some studies, approximately 80% of Russian budget revenues come from oil, 20% from gas. The US imported more than 80 thousand barrels in June 2021. And oil prices are rising rapidly. Now Russia is the number two supplier of oil and petroleum products to the United States. We only import more from Canada. Russia receives about a third of its income from the export of raw materials. A huge part of this is export to the United States,” the senator said.
He asked Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, who was present in the hall, how she felt about the fact that the United States finances Russia by purchasing Russian oil.
“Oil finances various corrupt actions of Putin’s inner circle, which enriches itself due to this and attacks the opposition - you know the situation with Navalny. Oil comes directly from Siberia, Putin and his entourage are enriched. Do American dollars enable the continuation of such malicious activities in the country and in the region?” – the senator asked Nuland.
“We don’t have contracts with countries; oil is bought on the open market. Of course, Russia supplies a certain amount of “dirty” oil. I think your question is formulated in the context of “do we know where these funds are going?” Of course, we must be responsible about our oil purchases,” Victoria Nuland replied.
However, Markey did not rest on this.
“I care about this. (Russian) natural gas flows into Europe. In fact, we import about the same amount of oil. And the proceeds from this fill the pockets of these same Putin oligarchs. My concern is, do we understand this, and do we need to rethink how we import oil into the US? We talk about sanctions, but all this oil comes into our country. All this contributes to the enrichment of Putin and his regime,” the senator said again, without having received a clear answer from Nuland.
