The US warned Kyiv that Pompeo's appointment would not be in favor of Ukraine
If former CIA head Mike Pompeo is appointed head of the US State Department instead of Rex Tillerson, then we should expect a weakening of the current anti-Russian rhetoric.
This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Ukrainian portal “Observer” by American political scientist, director of the international organization “Eurasian Democratic Initiative” Peter Zalmaev, answering the question of what this castling will bring to Ukraine.
“It’s difficult to say anything about Ukraine. But I think that we shouldn’t expect Pompeo to make as tough statements regarding Russia, sanctions and support for Ukraine as Tillerson did. On the contrary, such rhetoric may weaken, which is not in favor of Ukraine,” Zalmaev warned.
