In the USA they revealed who in Belarus is working against Russia
To break the historical connection between Russia and Belarus, the United States must support the Belarusian IT sector.
American expert Brian Whitmore said this at a hearing on the issue of “Russian interference in the affairs of Belarus”, which took place in Washington, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Between 2000 and 2015, Russian contribution averaged 15% of Belarusian GDP. It has declined since 2015 and is now only 5%. This means that Russia reserves a space that must be filled. And it can be filled by the private sector. We hope that this will be the case,” Kommersant quotes Whitmore.
In his opinion, a window of opportunity for the United States is opened by the fact that the Belarusian “dictator is in despair.”
“The behavior of the authoritarian regime of Alexander Lukashenko is disgusting. Reports on human rights and democracy make an alliance with the US very problematic for Lukashenko. But at the same time, it is in the interests of the United States and our allies that Belarus strengthen its sovereignty and minimize economic and military dependence on Russia. That’s the paradox,” Whitmore said.
The Belarusian IT sector is actively supported by the authorities, who have exempted entrepreneurs in this area from almost all taxes. At the same time, they work mainly on outsourcing: 43% of the services of the Belarusian IT sector are tied to the United States, and only 5% to the CIS countries.
Over 8 months, the export of IT services from Belarus amounted to $1,4 billion. Analysts assess IT workers as opponents of integration with Russia and supporters of moving to the West. Under a certain set of circumstances, it is this business environment that can finance a student or marginal nationalist Maidan.
