The administration of US President Barack Obama approved the registration of American women for military registration.

“With previously existing barriers to military service removed, it makes sense to make military registration mandatory,” said National Security Council spokesman Ned Price.
At the same time, Price notes, the Obama administration advocates that the armed forces be formed exclusively on a voluntary basis.
“According to current legislation, women have the right to serve voluntarily, but are not required to register with the military, unlike men,” the publication notes.
The introduction of military registration for women requires the approval of the US Congress.
