This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Latvian publication Dienas bizness by CNN correspondent, expert on the processes taking place in Russia, Wilson Center researcher Jill Docherty, according to whom Moscow is behind the hacking of the Democratic Party servers.
“As far as we know, nothing like this has happened before. In this regard, this is a very serious issue for President Barack Obama, because he needs to act somehow, and this will set a precedent. He must decide what to do, and what he does may become a blueprint for other presidents. And Vice President Joe Biden has already spoken about this and warned that the United States will react somehow,” the expert said.
The publication asked how realistic it is that Obama can manage to create such a precedent.
“He has to do it. And there are several things to do. One of the goals is to talk about this publicly, as other US officials are already doing, and confirm that, according to our information, the Russians are behind this. The next level is a response move (hacking back). We can also hack important servers. It is necessary to determine the “laws” of this “war” at the political level,” Jill Docherty emphasized.
