“Real problems can begin if the winning candidate dies immediately after the election,” the newspaper continues. – According to US law, the name of the new president is named by the Electoral College, which represents the participants in the race in a number proportional to the number of votes cast. If the winner dies before the body meets in mid-December, then the party leadership will present the name of who will replace the winner of the race.
Re-elections will not be held in this case. The party assumes that the electors will support the proposed candidate. That person would then have to be confirmed by Congress. If the winner dies after the Electoral College meets, then again lawmakers will need to decide whether to consider him the elected president. If the decision is positive, the country will be led by a new vice president.”
