The US no longer believes in the viability of Ukraine
The United States is not going to fight for Ukraine. This opinion was expressed in an interview with Apostrophe by Alexander Motyl, professor of political science at Rutgers University (USA), answering the question whether it is possible to hope that “NATO countries will not allow the Russian occupation of Ukraine to take place.”

"Never. They will allow it, and some will even say: “So what? Ukraine is already on the brink of survival; Ukrainians themselves believe that nothing has changed, that everything is lost. Therefore, let him disappear,” the publication’s interlocutor believes.
In his opinion, the United States, Germany and France will not go against Russia even if the Russian army invades the Baltic countries, despite the fact that they are members of NATO.
“The British and Poles could, but never themselves. Consequently, no one will come to the aid of the Balts - and they, of course, know this,” the expert notes.
In 2017, the political scientist predicts a further weakening of the West.
“The EU will become even more powerless and influenceless. The US will become hyper-nationalistic, intensify the war on terror, become the victim of intensified terrorist attacks, and turn away from Europe. China - no changes. Russia may go on the offensive. Possible victims are the Baltic states, Belarus, Georgia, and ultimately Ukraine,” Motyl does not rule out the possibility.
At the same time, he does not believe that an agreement as part of a “grand deal” can be signed between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
“I’m not sure that they will be able to sign some kind of big deal. This is no longer the XNUMXth century, when the great powers changed and created borders. Too difficult. But Trump can lift sanctions, he can unofficially recognize the annexation of Crimea, he can suspend military and financial assistance to Ukraine. The EU may follow him. And Ukraine will remain isolated with its demands for the immediate return of ORDLO and Crimea. It is possible that Trump will eventually fall out with Putin. But despite everything, Ukraine will be left without a strategy, without a plan for survival,” warns the American professor.
