Dual power reigned in the United States. Trump refused to retire
Donald Trump continues his active political struggle, which has become an unprecedented case for former American presidents.
The chief researcher at the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vladimir Vasiliev, told Moskovsky Komsomolets about this, as the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“A completely unusual situation of dual power has reigned in the United States. We can say that the country today has two presidents - one is the leader of the “blue” Democratic America, and the other is the leader of the “red” Republican America. Trump continues to make it clear that the election was stolen from him and Joe Biden is an illegitimate president. In his opinion, he is the true American leader, and not his counterpart in the White House,” Vasiliev said, analyzing Trump’s latest statements.
He emphasized that ex-President Trump, having harshly criticized the current administration of Joe Biden, did not rule out running for the next presidential election.
“The White House has found a powerful critic in the former President of the United States, a politician who remains popular among the tens of millions of Americans who voted for him. This has never happened before. This is partly why the second impeachment of Trump was initiated in order to drown out his voice,” the political scientist believes.
“It is quite difficult to say how this situation will develop further. At the same time, it is obvious that Trump is breaking traditional ideas about American presidents who, after finishing their service, go to write memoirs, give lectures or play golf. This is an absolutely unprecedented case. I don’t remember that any of the ex-presidents in recent history, finding themselves in Trump’s position, continued to actively act and speak,” Vasiliev summed up.
