There is a serious problem with diagnosing coronavirus in the United States
While South Korea has shown better results in the fight against coronavirus, the United States has been unable to control the spread of the disease throughout the country.
International health expert, candidate of medical sciences Nikolai Kryuchkov spoke about this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.
“The most important, one might even say decisive, role is played by the diagnostic features of COVID-2019. Thus, South Korea has become a leader in the fight against coronavirus, quickly setting up testing capacity for now about 20 thousand people every day. Those who become ill are immediately isolated so that they do not spread the infection further. Due to large-scale diagnostics, the Republic of Korea, on the one hand, came out on top in terms of the number of patients, and on the other hand, became a model of effective counteraction to infection.
The mortality rate there is now one of the lowest in the world - less than 1%! Both due to effective anti-epidemic measures, and due to the fact that it is possible to identify many non-fatal cases of mild infection,” the expert noted.
According to him, the United States showed the opposite example, although the first cases of coronavirus importation appeared there at the end of January, approximately on the same days as in South Korea.
“But there is a serious problem with diagnostic tests. They were in short supply, then it turned out that a significant part of them was defective. The American authorities have already assured that they are actively taking measures to increase the number and availability of diagnostic kits for COVID-2019. However, many experts are inclined to believe that the United States is seriously late. Most likely, people with an undiagnosed infection managed to disperse throughout the country and spread the virus widely,” says Kryuchkov.
As PolitNavigator reported, the coronavirus mortality rate was lower than expected.
