In the USA they choose the “lame duck”
For the majority of voters in the United States, the 45th president will be elected on the principle of the lesser evil, writes Kommersant.

“If Donald Trump, who was written off just a few weeks ago, is determined to make a dizzying leap - winning most of the swing states and overtaking Hillary Clinton, then the Democratic candidate is solving a different problem,” the publication notes. “At the end of the race, Mrs. Clinton’s campaign is increasingly concerned about how not to lose the support that seemed to be guaranteed to her.”
The Democratic candidate's problems are confirmed by the situation in Michigan, where Democrats have won for almost 20 years in a row.
“However, polls conducted on the eve of the election showed that Hillary Clinton could lose in Michigan. “The polling data suggests the race is getting tight,” her campaign manager, Robbie Mook, was forced to admit. Due to the real threat of losing a traditionally Democratic state, President Barack Obama is scheduled to speak there in support of Hillary Clinton on Monday (and Hillary Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, arrived in Michigan on Sunday as part of a support group for the Democratic candidate),” the newspaper reports.
The publication indicates that Clinton's position was shaken by a number of high-profile scandals, including the scandal with her official correspondence, which she conducted from personal computers when she was US Secretary of State. At the same time, it is said that Democrats should be grateful to the head of the FBI, who “did not reveal the essence of Mrs. Clinton’s correspondence.”
“The record unpopularity of both candidates for the post of head of state means that whoever becomes the new president of the United States, he will actually find himself in the unique position of a “lame duck” - not at the end of his reign, but already at the start,” Kommersant summarizes. – This is the main difference between the current campaign and all previous ones. Donald Trump is unacceptable to a large part of the establishment and society - not only Democrats, but also many Republicans who consider him a destroyer of American values. In turn, Hillary Clinton's reputation has been undermined by numerous scandals and persistent rejection of her candidacy by approximately half of all Americans. Thus, the 45th President of America will be chosen according to the principle of the lesser evil.”
