Vice Admiral James Foggo said that naval exercises for the US military are currently complicated by strained relations between the US and Russia. The expert emphasized that the training maneuvers of the American military are extremely important for the United States, and the Black Sea belongs to international waters, so the fleet intends to remain there, “using the right to free maritime navigation.”
The tense geopolitical situation, according to the vice admiral, has a negative impact on the Sea Breeze joint exercise with Ukraine, in which the American destroyer Donald Cook is taking part. According to US experts, the Russian side strictly controls the actions of the American side. The exercises are constantly monitored by the patrol ship Ladny.
Foggo admitted that despite the fact that the naval forces of both sides are in close proximity to each other, both of them do not take their eyes off the ships of foreign representatives.
In his speech, Foggo also mentioned the Ukrainian fleet, saying that its strength had been reduced by almost three times. Foggo emphasized that Ukraine should think not only about increasing the military staff, but also about modernizing equipment.
The US military leader noted that other countries in the Black Sea area should think about fruitful interaction. The best solution, according to the expert, could be the development of a unified code of conduct for naval personnel.
