Maidan was carefully dispersed in the capital of Armenia
Last night in the capital of Armenia, security forces quite tolerantly dispersed an anti-government protest, which had already been dubbed the local Maidan.
On June 19, protests against rising electricity prices began in Yerevan. Opposition and anti-government parties took advantage of the price increase to try to put pressure on the government and President Serzh Sargsyan personally. This morning the so-called After repeated warnings, the capital’s police dispersed the Tariff Maidan using water cannons. Some protesters suffered minor injuries.

The protests were not authorized and were caused by a 20% increase in electricity prices. Anti-government forces tried to take advantage of the demonstrations and discontent. After repeated warnings, police dispersed the protests with water cannons at about 4 a.m.
Kyiv media managed to call it Maidan against Russia and began broadcasting from the scene. However, the protesters behaved very peacefully, did not throw stones or other dangerous objects, and did not engage in fights with the police.
In turn, the police treated them extremely humanely. Despite the fact that the opposition Armenian website wrote approximately in this vein: “...persons in civilian clothes and “red berets” with unprecedented cruelty subjected to the capture of almost all participants strikes“, none of them could find even moderate injuries among the participants of the demonstration. The police did not use batons, tear gas or other special means except a water cannon. Several journalists were injured.
Ukrainian journalists and political scientists have already commented on what happened.
Ruslan Bortnik (political scientist): “After the Ukrainian events, any “Maidan” on the territory of the former USSR will meet with such a reception. And for long-suffering Armenia, “Maidan” is not only internal destabilization, but also a guaranteed war in Karabakh. Although, in any case, the Armenians deserve respect: they came out to rally against the 20% increase in electricity prices.”
Mikhail Pavliv (journalist): “The events in Yerevan are a vivid example of the results of vaccination. Yanukovych."
