This opinion, in particular, was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv by Oleg Ustenko, executive director of the Blazer International Foundation. In his opinion, the latest collapse of the hryvnia was largely facilitated by political games on the eve of the elections.
“In a country called Ukraine, the exchange rate is interpreted not only or not so much as an economic, but as a political category,” the analyst points out. – The stability or instability of the exchange rate is used to judge how effective or ineffective the economic policy of the state is. And from this point of view, in general, we saw a fixation of the course on the eve of the elections and a subsequent vacation immediately after the elections.”
According to the expert, exchange rate fluctuations in the market will continue over the coming weeks, and a number of parameters indicate that the market is trying to find an equilibrium position.
“However, at the same time, this can occur against the backdrop of consistent devaluation,” believes Oleg Ustenko. – You can apply administrative measures as much as you like, but fundamental issues will not be resolved. A characteristic that the hryvnia is under devaluation pressure is the presence of a trade deficit and a trade account deficit. These are the main signs by which we can judge that additional devaluation is not excluded.”
