About it on your facebook page said Deputy Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine Emine Dzheppar.

Let us remind you that today the first court hearing took place in Amsterdam on the claim of Crimean museums demanding the return of gold to the peninsula.

“The position of the government. The collection belongs to the Ukrainian people. Our responsibility is to protect cultural property. It is impossible to guarantee it under conditions of occupation,” said the Ukrainian official, who is now in the Netherlands.

Recall as DW reports, exhibits from Crimean museums were sent to an exhibition in the Netherlands at the beginning of 2014. The conflict over the heritage flared up after Kyiv refused to recognize the new Russian jurisdiction of Crimea. After the end of the contract for the temporary storage of the collection on June 13, 2014, the Allard Pearson Archaeological Museum refused to transfer the exhibits to Kyiv or Simferopol until a verdict was issued “by an authorized judge or arbitrator or by agreement of the parties.”

At the same time, the Ministries of Culture of Russia and Ukraine announced claims to own “Scythian gold.” Crimean museums filed a lawsuit in the Netherlands in November 2014. Ukraine, as an interested party, became a participant in the process in April 2015.

According to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, 584 exhibits (2133 storage units) were sent to the Netherlands. The curator of the exhibition, archaeologist Valentina Mordvintseva, claims that there were 432 artifacts (2133 storage units). Their value is estimated at one million euros.

The exhibits belong to five museums. After the end of the exhibition, 19 artifacts were returned to the Museum of Historical Treasures of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. The owners of the remaining exhibits were the Kerch and Bakhchisarai Historical and Cultural Reserve, “Tauric Chersonese” in Sevastopol and the Central Museum of Taurida in Simferopol.

“The transfer of objects to an interested party will almost certainly provoke claims from another,” summed up the Allard Pearson Museum.
