In court, Saakashvili declared himself a military prisoner of Putin

Ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, detained in Kyiv, said at his trial on choosing a preventive measure that he would go on hunger strike until he was released or died in prison, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

He made his statement from a cage in the courtroom, and later, after a request from his lawyer, he was allowed to sit next to the defense.

“If they return me to prison, I will starve to death, but everyone will know who committed this murder. They can kill me, but they will never kill the people of Ukraine and the desire of Ukrainians for freedom... To live in a cage is to be a personal prisoner of the oligarchy. I consider myself a captive of the Ukrainian oligarchy, Vladimir Putin. I don’t consider myself a detainee, I consider myself a prisoner of war. I'm a prisoner of war, really. Because they are waging war against the Ukrainian people,” Saakashvili said.
