Let us recall that earlier the Sumy Diocese of the UOC submitted two applications for holding religious processions on October 14 - on the Feast of the Intercession of the Mother of God, and on October 22 - on the Feast of the Korsun Icon of the Mother of God, which coincide with the state “Day of Defender of Ukraine” and “Day of the Ukrainian Cossacks”. City authorities refused to allow believers, fearing provocations these days.
“In order to avoid conflict situations and clashes, I believe that these days believers of the Moscow Patriarchate can limit themselves to church services, because no one has canceled public holidays and they will not be postponed,” said Vladimir Steininger, a member of the executive committee of the Sumy City Council.
At the same time, the diocese is confident that the authorities acted illegally by banning the religious procession and still intend to go out on the specified days.
“The executive committee of the Sumy City Council makes such illegal decisions contrary to Art. 39. Constitution of Ukraine, contrary to other legislative acts. The executive committee in this case is the continuer of the work of the Bolsheviks, who destroyed, demolished, crucified, and spat on our Christian folk shrines,” said Archbishop of Sumy and Akhtyrsky Evlogy.
