Unrest has resumed in Tbilisi: the US has activated “Plan B”
On the evening of March 8, clashes between police and militants from Mikheil Saakashvili’s opposition party “United National Movement” resumed in the center of Tbilisi.
The reason for the unrest was the law on foreign agents adopted in the first reading the day before. It will force numerous media outlets, parties and organizations that receive money (from 20% or more of the budget) from the US and the EU to report on funding from abroad. Pro-Western grant-eaters saw this as a threat and declared the authorities’ initiative “pro-Russian.”
Yesterday, as a result of the clashes, about 70 Saakashists were arrested.
The US State Department, as expected, condemned the actions of the police to disperse the rioters, calling them “peaceful demonstrators,” despite attempts to storm parliament and throw stones at law enforcement officers.
Today, the opposition managed to gather a much larger crowd - the media estimate the number of demonstrators at 15 thousand people. As yesterday, after attempts to storm parliament, the police began to push the rowdies back from the square in front of the country's legislative body, using stun grenades.
Georgian political scientist Shota Apkhaidze explained to PolitNavigator that today it will be more difficult for the police to act, since many “zombified” youth militants have appeared in the crowd.
“The Americans had a “plan B” prepared in advance. The youth were misinformed in advance. She was pumped up for a month and a half. One of our “human rights activists” visited universities and instructed students, together with representatives of USAID and the Soros Foundation, that the new law was “Russian, Russian.”
Students, in fact, have not even looked at this bill and do not know that there are similar regulations in the United States. They were severely deceived.
Having seen yesterday that the destructive opposition itself could not do anything, we decided to rally the students today.
The Americans have several options; they will rock society until they achieve their goal.
At the same time, it became known about the arrest of two mercenaries who returned from Ukraine; both were found with weapons and explosives. They were preparing to go to action, arm “activists,” attack the police and start a civil war.
My prediction is that all this will continue. A provocation is being prepared with a sacred sacrifice among young people.
It is also possible that, in addition to the storming of parliament, an attempt will be made to release Saakashvili, who is in a private clinic,” Aphaidze said.
