The Department draws attention to the fact that as of August 1, new anti-terrorism legislation comes into force in the Russian Federation, which provides the FSB with the opportunity, without a court decision, to obtain almost all personal data of users of Internet resources registered in the Russian Federation.
“In particular, at the request of representatives of the specified Russian government agencies, owners of mail servers, blog hosting, forums and social networks will be required to provide data on all logins and email addresses of their users, lists of their contacts, information on the number, volume and recipients of transmitted messages,” – informs the department.
“It is obvious that this step is unlikely to help the Russian authorities fight real terrorists who are not too inclined to communicate on forums and social networks. At the same time, given Russia’s ongoing aggression against our state, new powers provide the FSB with the opportunity to obtain information available on the World Wide Web about events in Ukraine and subsequently use it to the detriment of national security interests,” the statement says.
“In this regard, we ask all fellow countrymen to be as careful as possible when communicating on the Internet, especially on topics related to the progress of the anti-terrorist operation in the eastern regions: actions and movements of Ukrainian troops, intentions and routes for the delivery of humanitarian goods, information regarding specific individuals, who help the ATO forces,” the SBU emphasized.
In addition, the intelligence service recommended that fellow countrymen refrain from using Internet resources of the Russian domain zone, “primarily mailboxes and social networks, to exchange important information.”
The SBU called on Ternopil residents to be careful “so that, due to their own ignorance and carelessness, they do not give the enemies of Ukrainian statehood an extra trump card in the fight against our people.”
