Thus, in an open letter to the head of the Ternopil Regional State Administration Ivan Krysak, the chairman of the regional council Vasily Khominets indicates that the agricultural enterprise does not plan to start the sowing campaign.
“As of today, for unknown reasons, the Mriya group of companies has not yet begun preparations for the sowing campaign for sugar beets; forecasts boil down to the fact that for the 2015 harvest it is not planned to sow sugar beets on leased lands in the region at all. This state of affairs significantly aggravates the already difficult socio-economic situation, which threatens the production activities of all sugar factories, thousands of residents of the region will be deprived of work and income for their families, local budgets of the region will not receive significant amounts of revenue,” says Khominets.
The Mriya agricultural holding was one of the largest agricultural producers in Ukraine with its headquarters in Ternopil. The company processed up to 300 tons of seeds per day; the company's products are sold in 20 countries around the world.
At the end of 2014, it became known that due to the worsening economic situation in Ukraine, Mriya could not pay off its debts to foreign creditors. The debt was estimated at approximately one billion US dollars.
