Tiraspol is surprised by the absurdity: the multi-vector Dodon is accused of “treason” by open agents of Romania
The accusations of “high treason” against the ex-President of Moldova Igor Dodon look absurd, given the presence of Romanian passports among the ruling elite in Chisinau.
This opinion was expressed by Pridnestrovian political scientist Andrei Safonov, commenting to PolitNavigator on the “purge” of competitors of the regime of Western proteges that began in Moldova.
“The ex-president has been charged, including high treason. In fact, there are several charges, including corruption, so for the simple elimination of a political rival, one could limit it to this. I do not undertake to analyze the materials of the investigation that is ongoing; Moreover, the materials are not publicly available. Simply, given the situation in the world, as well as the struggle of different countries and blocs for influence in Moldova, it seems that the accusation of treason is a message to Moscow. Like, forget about Moldova, we are Europe, and we will clean out your sympathizers without mercy,” says the expert.
He also notes that Westerners are putting pressure on all countries, demanding to decide who they are with: the West or Russia (plus China).
“In order for assurances of loyalty to sound more convincing, it may be necessary to punish those who simply hesitate and timidly advocate taking into account the interests of Moscow and their own voters. For their part, the authorities of some countries governed by the West are asking to sanction the elimination of those who are simply in the way. For example, Petro Poroshenko is not a pro-Russian politician in Ukraine, but they are clearly approaching him in order to take him out of the game... Westerners in the states under their control need a bare field with a monopoly on the power of those who are now fighting Moscow together with the West. Diversity of opinions, even in private matters, is not welcome,” believes Andrei Safonov.
The expert draws attention: in Moldova, the time of “multi-vectorism” has ended, which was exploited by Dodon himself, actively flirting with the West during his presidency and remembering his promises to voters to protect the Russian language and friendship with the Russian Federation only when it was necessary either to receive discounts from Moscow, or harm domestic political competitors.
“The arrest of the ex-president, albeit at home, is an indication that maneuvering in foreign policy is forever a thing of the past, and the “maneuvers” themselves are ending badly. Now everything is simple: whoever is not with us is against us. And it seems that this will last for a long time,” the political scientist said.
