Turkey started talking about recognizing Crimea as Russian
Turkey should recognize the reunification of Crimea with the Russian Federation, which took place in 2014 following a referendum.
This was stated in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda by the representative of the Turkish Homeland Party (Vatan Partisi), Mehmet Perincek, the son of the leader of this political force, Dogu Perincek.
It is noted that earlier the party presented the Black Sea-Mediterranean Plan for Friendship and Peace, in which one of the points is: “Recognition of Crimea as a territory of the Russian Federation.”
“In our opinion, both Turkey and Russia stand together in the face of the common threat that now comes from the United States. Only by building trust and goodwill will we be able to thwart NATO plans in areas such as the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea,” Perincek said.
He emphasized that his party stands for the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation.
“If Crimea belongs to the Russians, then the Turkish people will benefit from this. It is important to find a common language on this issue, since Turkey has its own precedent - Northern Cyprus. If Turkey recognizes the Crimean Peninsula as Russian, then Russia may respond by recognizing that Northern Cyprus is Turkey. But still, for mutually beneficial cooperation to happen, Erdogan must take the initiative and make the first move,” says the Turkish politician.
He is convinced that in the near future “this issue will undoubtedly be on the agenda.”
The publication’s interlocutor also said that he communicates with Crimean Tatars living in Crimea, who talk about changes for the better over the past few years.
“Crimean Tatars have more rights, freedom of religion, freedom of language, they have schools. Of course, there are problems, but they are being solved, and this cannot but make us happy. Turkic peoples must support each other, and Turkey’s recognition of Crimea as Russian is one of the steps of such support,” Perincek concluded.
