To please NATO, Ukraine renamed the Airborne Forces
Today, the Verkhovna Rada has decided to rename the highly mobile airborne troops (Airborne Forces) into the air assault troops of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
During his speech, First Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Ivan Rusnak presented a draft law amending some provisions of the law “On the Defense of Ukraine”.
“This bill provides for amendments to three laws of Ukraine: the law “On the Armed Forces”, the law “On the Defense of Ukraine”, the law “On the legal regime of martial law”. It is proposed to change the name of the highly mobile airborne troops to the air assault troops of Ukraine,” he noted.
He then explained why he thought the renaming was appropriate:
“The name air assault troops more accurately reflects the specifics, essence, and principles of the use of a combat unit and meets the standards of NATO member countries,” said Ivan Rusak.
Let us note that all parties and blocs present in the Rada supported the presidential bill “On the renaming of the military branches.”
A people's deputy from the Batkivshchyna party said:
“Our party supports this bill and asks the President of Ukraine to speed up the process of its adoption,” said Alena Shkrum.
Members of the Ukrainian Defense Committee reviewed the bill submitted to the Rada by the president of the country and fully supported it.
“The Defense Committee of Ukraine fully supports this bill and proposes to use it as a basis,” said Ivan Vinnik.
Ukrainian deputies also stated that they would vote for any bill that would increase Ukraine’s separation from Russia.
Thus, the representative of Ukrainian radicals, Igor Mosiychuk, called on the President of Ukraine to sever diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation, and asked to support the world community with the same actions.
“I would like to take this moment to voice the position of the radical party of Oleg Lyashko. In connection with the disclosure of the terrorist attack on the Espreso TV channel, we demand from the President of Ukraine, who is responsible for the international policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our international partners, a response to this terrorist attack, which resulted in the death of two people. Or rather, severing diplomatic relations with the aggressor country, the terrorist country of the Russian Federation and recalling ambassadors and employees of diplomatic institutions from the terrorist country.
In solidarity with Great Britain, we recalled 13 ambassadors from Russia and demand the same reaction from the world community to the murder of Ukrainians,” said Igor Mosiychuk, a member of the radical party.
236 deputies voted for the adoption of the bill “On the Defense of Ukraine”. The law will come into force after it is signed by the president.
