A large “zrada” was discovered in Poroshenko’s decree with a secret part on Azov
There is chaos in the high corridors of Ukrainian power - the Security Council makes a decision to counter Russia in the Sea of Azov, and Petro Poroshenko’s administration then adds new points to the already adopted document, and the innovations do not play into Moscow’s hands.
This conclusion follows from the publication of the Kyiv newspaper “Zerkalo Nedeli”, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
The publication recalls that the other day Petro Poroshenko issued a decree “On urgent measures to protect national interests in the South and East of Ukraine, in the Black and Azov Seas and the Kerch Strait.”
Part of the decree was classified. According to journalists, it talks about the creation of a naval base in Azov.
“Given the ratio of Ukrainian and Russian warships in the waters, this is a symbolic demonstration of the Ukrainian naval flag. Nevertheless, such a decision shows Kyiv’s desire to defend its rights and interests in the region,” the article says.
The open part of the decree talks about collecting information about the situation in the Azov and Black Seas, preparing claims against the Russian Federation in international courts, and adopting a law on internal waters.
In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must notify the UN secretariat and the Russian Federation about the coordinates of the median line in the Sea of Azov, the Kerch Strait (!) and the Black Sea, which, until the conclusion of a new Ukrainian-Russian agreement, will be the line of the state border between Ukrainian and Russian internal waters.
“Zerkalo Nedeli” especially notes that the Ukrainian Security Council did not vote for the clause on the median line; the presidential administration introduced it on its own initiative.
“The last point became the jack-in-the-box.” And its appearance demonstrated the imbalance of the state decision-making system. Initially, the draft decision of the National Security and Defense Council assumed that the coordinates of only those areas in the Azov and Kerch Seas, as well as the Kerch Strait, that are occupied by Russia would be determined,” the publication writes.
According to the author, the clause on the median line fixes Azov’s status as an inland sea. Thus, Ukraine recognizes its existing agreement on this with Russia, which does not provide for the entry into the waters of warships of third countries.
“In general, it is difficult to understand the logic of those who prepared this decision... the Ukrainian government itself creates difficulties for itself,” the author of the material laments.
