As reported by the press service of Ukroboronprom, the planned modernization package for the BMP-1 includes the installation of new modular weapons that will allow it to meet the highest modern standards. Specific technical specifications have not been disclosed. At the moment, the re-equipment of the first machines has already begun.
After completion of the modification, the BMP-1 will undergo short tests and then go to the ATO zone to carry out combat missions. The infantry fighting vehicle is designed to transport infantry to the front flank of the front. In addition, the tracked armored vehicle BMP can overcome water obstacles and is also adapted for air transportation, and the modernization will allow firing on the move, as well as air defense.
As PolitNavigator reported, earlier MP Anton Gerashchenko said that there is an unspoken embargo in Europe on the supply of arms to Ukraine.
