“Today in one of the stores, the numbers 65, 50, 70 were written on the shoe price tags. I was surprised by both the price and the fact that not a single currency was indicated. When you ask about the cost of the products, the sellers answer that the price is indicated in dollars. There, in accordance with the foreign exchange rate, the cost of products is stated in hryvnias. Another store sells shoes for euros,” writes the publication “0352.ua” with reference to its readers.
“The only means of payment on the territory of Ukraine on the domestic market is the hryvnia. The formation of prices in foreign currency is not provided for by any regulatory act in Ukraine. As for me, from the point of view of legislation, such actions, if they occur, are not legal,” recalled economist Mikhail Luchko.
“If people set prices for goods in dollars, they apparently assume that the dollar exchange rate changes very quickly. Entrepreneurs probably think that it is difficult to change price tags every hour. But, as I have already noted, such actions, if they take place, go beyond the legal framework,” the expert said.
Experts also note that setting prices in foreign currency is partly a managerial move. After all, this or that amount in dollars is several times less than in hryvnias. Therefore, at first glance, the cost of the product does not frighten buyers; they psychologically gradually get used to the real price of the product. In some cases, this can work in favor of entrepreneurs - despite the high price, the buyer can purchase the product.
