Stalin's popularity is growing in Ukrainian society
Ukrainians are increasingly inclined to believe that a strong hand will lead the country out of the crisis, and not talk about democracy.
The Kiev online newspaper “Mirror of the Week” draws attention to this trend.
The key challenge for democracy is the high demand for authoritarianism in Ukrainian society. The majority of Ukrainians (60,5% - “Monitoring Social Changes” of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) are convinced that for the normal development of the country a “strong hand” is needed, and not talk about democracy.
Another marker: the attitude towards Stalin softened by 12 points in the five years after the Maidan. The sociological group “Rating” noticed that in 2014, Stalin was perceived negatively by significantly more Ukrainians – 70%. Now it’s 58%,” the publication writes.
The article also states that Ukrainian society is “pregnant with authoritarianism.”
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Kiev propagandist Vitaly Portnikov acknowledged the merits Stalin before Ukraine.
