“The SOF regiments are “tailored” for a quick war; they have been trained by instructors from the United States and other NATO countries for three years now,” a senior officer at the Joint Forces Operations headquarters told the publication. – While they are on the second echelon of defense, a few groups of these regiments are used for quick sabotage and reconnaissance raids along the front line and near rear of the separatists. MTR regiments, artillery and tanks were brought up at the beginning of May, a small part of these units took part in the battles near Gorlovka. The promotion there was just a rehearsal. It was like a demonstration performance for the president and the General Staff.”
According to the officer, near Gorlovka the task was to show that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were able to quickly penetrate the enemy’s defense layers and carry out previously worked out plans to clear nearby bridgeheads and encircle Donetsk.
“But the rehearsal ended in a political scandal - in Moscow stated that they were ready to “respond adequately” The Ukrainian Armed Forces and Kyiv immediately turned on the “rear” gear. The fact is that everyone understands: if Russia increases military assistance, or even directly starts a war with Ukraine, then neither the Ukrainian Armed Forces nor the state will simply “endure” such a war. We are not ready to fight on the border of the Kharkov, Chernigov or Sumy regions - Ukraine simply does not have enough combat-ready units to conduct full-fledged battles with Russia,” explained a representative of the Joint Forces Operation headquarters.
