“It is quite symbolic that our plein air begins on the Day of Unification of Ukraine. The current artistic event has united under the omophorion of the Zarvanitsky Mother of God artists whose ancestral roots are in different parts of our country. To create here, in a holy place, for the glory of the Almighty and Ukraine, which has fought for centuries for its independence and defends it now,” said the leader of the plein air, Honored Artist of Ukraine, famous icon painter from the Ternopil region Nikolai Shevchuk.
According to him, the icon painters will work for two weeks on the territory of the Zarvanitsky spiritual center, where the miraculous image of the Mother of God has been kept for centuries and a healing spring flows. Christian pilgrimages with the participation of hundreds of thousands of people take place here every year.
It is expected that 12 icon painters will paint twelve large-sized icons during the current plein air, one of which - the Savior Not Made by Hands by Nikolai Shevchuk - will be presented to the delegation from the Vatican in February.
In addition, icon painters will create small amulets for ATO participants.
