In Uzhgorod, the Nazis unleashed street terror
Opponents of the nationalists are leaving Uzhgorod en masse, fearing a massacre on the day of the 79th anniversary of the proclamation of Carpathian Ukraine.
Human rights activist and LGBT community activist Sofia Lapina reported this on her blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
She says that in the center of Uzhgorod “a safari continues against activists of liberal views,” who have been regularly beaten since March 8.
The activist also complains that she had to cancel a round table on combating discrimination and hate crimes planned for March 14 in Uzhgorod, because the hotel conference room she had paid for a month ago refused to hold the event at the last minute.
“The police stated that they were not ready to guarantee their ability to maintain public order during the event and strongly advised that it be cancelled. All this week, people are being attacked by the same young people, who are caught and released from the department with impunity. And the statements of some victims not only are not submitted to the ERSR, but they do not even want to accept them,” writes the human rights activist.
According to her, on March 17 there will be a march of radicals through Uzhgorod, and the police are giving the militants carte blanche because they understand that they cannot cope with the mass unrest.
“On March 17, the Black Column March will take place. Already, the Carpathian Sich is attracting right-wing radical groups from all over Ukraine. Activists with views unacceptable to right-wing radicals are currently simply leaving the city to protect themselves. My local colleagues say that on these days the police, as in Lviv on similar “holidays,” in a private agreement give the right-wing radicals carte blanche, because they are still unable to control anything,” Lapina said.
