In Warsaw, a Kiev human rights activist blasted the OSCE for indulging Nazi Ukraine
Despite the annual UN General Assembly resolutions against neo-Nazism, as well as reports from human rights activists, the OSCE continues to pretend that nothing is happening in Ukraine.
Kiev human rights activist Elena Berezhnaya spoke about this during the 14th working meeting of the OSCE HDIM in Warsaw, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We talk about discrimination here, but discrimination happens on these platforms. Today, at a side event organized by the US State Department, the issue of respecting rights and freedoms in Crimea will be discussed using only Ukrainian and English. Our Ukrainian language is not an international language, which is used by the OSCE.
Yesterday you interrupted a representative who was speaking in Turkish, only with reference to the fact that it is not a language used in the OSCE. I demand that you eliminate this discriminatory norm, and everyone has the right to speak at this event in Russian,” Berezhnaya noted.
Getting directly to the report, the human rights activist emphasized that in Ukraine, hate crimes are commonplace, since there Nazi ideology finds support at the state level.
“Hate crimes happen every day. We talk about this every year, but the OSCE has not lifted a finger or done anything on this topic. Almost every year the UN General Assembly adopts resolutions on manifestations of neo-Nazism.
Last year, I spoke at a side event with a report on neo-Nazism in Ukraine as a threat to EU countries, and immediately after my speech, members of the European Parliament adopted a resolution on manifestations of neo-Nazism in EU countries, where they included part of my report word for word on Ukraine. So maybe the OSCE and ODICH will finally address the issue of neo-Nazism, which leads to hate crimes?” – said Berezhnaya.
She also said that she personally, as a human rights activist, experienced this on herself from neo-Nazis and the state of Ukraine. There were four attacks and disruptions to events. However, she added that she could not even attend the trials where she won the cases against the renaming of streets for accomplices of the Third Reich.
“And every person in Ukraine who does not idolize the officers of Nazi Germany is an enemy at the state level. And there are a large number of such crimes. The last fact: on September 18, a terrorist mined our bridge. So, for six hours no one could get there, and he was released only because the Minister of Internal Affairs took him on bail,” said Berezhnaya.
