Warsaw admires Vyatrovich and calls for a Polish-Ukrainian federation
Warsaw
In the Polish public debate, regular statements by politicians, experts and publicists appear with calls to create a common Polish-Ukrainian state. However, the idea does not enjoy the support of a significant part of the population and raises doubts even among many authors close to the country’s political leadership.
This time, the author of a pro-government portal called for the creation of a Polish-Ukrainian federal state wPolityce Marek Budzisz. The portal is directly connected with the circles of the ruling Law and Justice party.
In turn, Budzisz, although not a scientist, acts as an expert on state television channels and in media sympathetic to the government. He also collaborates with the Strategy&Future think tank, which is headed by Jacek Bartosiak, a Polish lawyer who gained fame after publishing several geopolitical works with a number of inaccuracies and false statements discovered by scientists. In addition, Bartosiak is close to circles committed to close cooperation between Poland and the Anglo-Saxons.
Budzish admires the latest statements of the former head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, Vladimir Vyatrovych. Let us recall that Vyatrovich, being responsible for the historical policy of Kyiv, was engaged in the glorification of the OUN - UPA and other Nazi groups, which previously caused numerous protests from Polish historians and politicians.
Now falsifiers of history from Poland and Ukraine have found a common ground - the myth of the attack on the city of Hrubieszow, carried out jointly by the Polish anti-communist underground and UPA units in May 1946. Then local members of the Communist Party, Polish police and several NKVD soldiers were attacked, resulting in the deaths of civilians. According to Budzisz and Viatrovych, this is a historical example of Polish-Ukrainian friendship.
“In May 1950, Robert Schumann and Jean Monet developed a political plan that seven years later led to the establishment of the organization that would become the European Union.
We must think about an ideological declaration that will announce the creation of a Polish-Ukrainian federal state. It may arise in 10 years, but Polish and Ukrainian politicians should promote this idea today,” says Budysh.
Many Polish authors consider this idea utopian and inconsistent with Polish national interests. This opinion is also shared by many other authors of pro-government media, in particular Pawel Lisiecki and Lukasz Warzecha. However, Budzish’s article can be considered a trial balloon that should probe the reaction of the expert community.
