Washington admitted that it is unable to provide the EU with American gas
European countries should not rely on American liquefied natural gas (LNG), as its exports from the country are at capacity.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was expressed by the managing director of the Washington-based Berkeley Research Group and former member of the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Branko Terzik, assessing the upcoming consideration by American senators of a bill imposing sanctions against Nord Stream 2.
As an expert told Kommersant, “the presence of a direct gas pipeline from Russia to Germany eliminates significant risks of supplies to Western Europe” associated with the instability of Russian-Ukrainian relations.”
He also emphasized that European consumers cannot refuse Russian gas in favor of American gas.
“US LNG exports are at capacity, we have virtually no new production capacity,” the analyst explained.
According to him, SP-2 is commercially justified, since it was built for European clients.
“Western European clients are our allies in NATO. Europeans know better what their energy needs and energy security requirements are. And I would leave this choice to them,” adds Terzik.
