When Poroshenko appeared in the hall, he could not be introduced for several minutes, as the Americans clapped for him. Also, after the performance, he could not immediately begin his performance for the same reason.
In his speech, the President of Ukraine thanked the Americans for their solidarity and briefly spoke about the events on the Maidan.
“Defending Freedom. For her sake, people sacrificed their lives on the Maidan. We consider them heroes of the nation,” he said.
“The annexation of Crimea is the most cynical betrayal,” Poroshenko recalled about the Budapest Memorandum and Ukraine’s refusal of the world’s third-largest nuclear potential.
In his opinion, the USSR collapsed very quickly, while “imperialism” is still present in people’s minds, as well as “nostalgia for the Soviet Union.”
“Don't let Ukraine go. Don’t let her be alone in this situation,” Poroshenko said to the applause of the Americans.
As PolitNavigator reported, today Petro Poroshenko is on a visit to Washington, where he is to meet with Barack Obama.
