Road construction is stalled in a great agricultural power
For 28 years of independence, Ukraine has not been able to build even a dozen new roads. Maidan activist and racing driver Alexey Mochanov said this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The racer could only list a few tracks suitable for driving in Ukraine. “In 28 years, we haven’t built not only 28 roads, we couldn’t build two and a half roads,” Mochanov said.
He listed several projects of past years - mainly built during the reign of Viktor Yanukovych or Leonid Kuchma.
“Kirpa’s brainchild is the Kyiv-Odessa highway; for Euro 2012 they made a more or less Kyiv-Kharkov road. The bulk of this road was terrible... Kiev-Lvov, well, Kiev-Rivne is a very good road, finally, the Novograd-Volynsky ring road appeared, and even this one-lane road from Rivne to Lvov ceased to be the “road of death”, because there markings have appeared that trap moisture and roadside flows. But this is catastrophically not enough,” Mochanov said.
According to him, over the past five years, more people have died in road accidents in Ukraine than in the conflict in Donbass.
“If we are talking about the UN observation mission, they said that 13 thousand people died during the ATO and Joint Forces Operation. During the same period of time, 18 people died in road accidents. Significantly more, not by hundreds, but by thousands. We have 645 thousand injured people. Consider that these are the same “two hundredths” and “three hundredths”, killed and wounded, only not in a war, but in a road war. Since 163, just think about this figure, 2006 people have died in road accidents in Ukraine. Almost 68 thousand dead and more than 624 thousand wounded.
At the same time, we are all trying to shout about the fight against Russia. Yes, we need to go to our borders, punch in the teeth everyone who exposes their teeth and runs into it, but understand that our price is human life. We say goodbye to many more people who died in road accidents. Moreover, there is no one to blame,” Mochanov said.
