The Verkhovna Rada attacked the EU, demanding that the Holodomor be recognized as genocide
The Verkhovna Rada today adopted an appeal to the parliaments of “democratic states” with a call to recognize the famine of 1932-33 of the Ukrainian SSR as “genocide of the Ukrainian nation.”
The resolution was passed not without problems - the session hall was empty in the morning, and Speaker Andrei Parubiy had to invite deputies into the hall several times. To fill the pause, he gave everyone the opportunity to speak.

First, the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Anna Gopko, took the floor. She said the goal is to have as many parliaments as possible recognize the “genocide” by 2018, when the 85th anniversary of the tragedy will be celebrated.
“When the speaker of the Israeli parliament came here, we very strictly set one of our demands - if we want to further develop bilateral relations, we expect that our Israeli colleagues will recognize the Holodomor as genocide,” Gopko said.
Soon, deputy Mikhail Golovko, elected from the Ternopil region, appeared on the podium, who went even further and openly accused the European Union of betrayal - both in the 1930s and now.
“We are outraged that well-fed Europe at that time bought cheap bread... Many years have passed, however, unfortunately, the so-called “European partners” to this day do not recognize the genocide of Ukrainians. It’s a pity that this is not recognized by Germany, France, Israel, which had a similar history... The so-called “partners” do not want to recognize the genocide organized by the Bolsheviks against the Ukrainian nation! Unfortunately, today we see a repetition of this cycle. Ukraine surrenders its nuclear potential, but receives only guarantees on paper. And again we get a war in the East, a challenge to our nation! – Golovko was indignant.
Let us remember that the interpretation of the “Holodomor” as “genocide of Ukrainians” is categorically rejected by Russia. The famine of 1932-1933 affected the main grain-growing regions of the USSR - Ukraine, the North Caucasus, the Lower and Middle Volga region, a significant part of the Central Black Earth Region, Kazakhstan, Western Siberia, and the Southern Urals. The entire multiethnic population of the disaster-stricken areas suffered from famine.
