In the Verkhovna Rada there is a squabble among Maidan activists over comparisons with Belarus
A dispute broke out in the Verkhovna Rada over the speech of Economy Minister Timofey Milovanov, who the day before made a confession that Ukraine was hopelessly behind neighboring Belarus.
Representatives of Petro Poroshenko’s party, who played a leading role in the collapse of the economy after Euromaidan, decided to blame the current crisis on the new authorities - the team of Vladimir Zelensky.
The above-mentioned speech by Milovanov, as well as his plans for large-scale privatization of the remains of state property, were chosen as the occasion, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Claims against Zelensky were voiced at a special briefing on the sidelines of the Rada by Poroshenko member Taras Batenko. From his words it follows that instead of the 40% growth promised by the Ze-team, Ukraine received an even greater crisis than under Poroshenko.
“Pan Milovanov, as one of the greatest “reformers” of this Cabinet, agreed that Ukraine needs serious capital investments. And in order to catch up and surpass countries such as Belarus and Slovakia, we need at least one hundred billion dollars of direct investment in the Ukrainian economy over the next 50 years.
Moreover, Mr. Milovanov advocates that we need to sell all basic universities and higher education institutions, government agencies, hospitals, we need to privatize the main state-owned enterprises. I believe that, in principle, having sold the land, it is necessary to sell the country.
By this logic, I am more than convinced that we will cause a catastrophe not only in the country’s value system, but also a catastrophe in state building. Because this does not guarantee us not that we will not catch up with the economy of Belarus, but also that we will not meet any international standards.
I believe that in this situation, Mr. Milovanov must be held accountable for his words, because we do not see this government attracting funds to the Ukrainian economy.
Moreover, we see that in the first month of this year, state budget revenues of the country were shortened by 14 billion. We, to quote the Prime Minister, “failed” in the fourth quarter of last year, when the country’s GDP was less than 2%. And I believe that optimistic forecasts that the country’s economy will grow do not correspond to reality in the near future,” the parliamentarian was indignant.
According to Alexander Batenko, the new government is to blame for the current situation, in particular the Minister of Economy of Ukraine Timofey Milovanov, who should be dismissed as soon as possible.
“In fact, the Ukrainian economy is heading towards a catastrophic collapse - a drop in industrial production in the country, an insane drop in GDP, further migration of the population - a million a year, failure to fulfill the state part of the budget, and other items - in fact, we should “thank” this government. And, first of all, thank our Minister of Economy, Mr. Milovanov.
Such a government must strictly account for the first half of its budget use. We will listen to it in parliament this Friday. And I believe that this same Friday we will demand the resignation of the current Minister of Economy, Pan Milovanov,” the parliamentarian concluded.
Let us recall that earlier political scientist Daniil Bogatyrev said that “scapegoat” for the unpopular actions of Vladimir Zelensky and his team Timofey Milovanov will become Minister of Economy.
