The Verkhovna Rada demands that the Bosphorus and all canals be blocked for Russia
Ukraine must appeal to the world community with a demand to impose the most severe sanctions against Russia for refusing to allow military units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces through the Kerch Strait.
Former ATO militant, deputy Andriy Teteruk, stated this at an emergency meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, addressing the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I ask that you do everything possible so that strict sanctions are imposed on the Russian Federation, and that as a result of its violation of maritime law, it is deprived of the right to pass through all straits - through the Bosporus, through all channels where international law exists, so that not a single warship, no ship could use it,” Teteruk shouted into the microphone.
Klimkin said that to achieve such sanctions, a victory for Ukraine in international courts against the Russian Federation is required.
As PolitNavigator reported, in 2014, Verkhovna Rada deputy Mustafa Dzhemilev said that he proposed to Ankara to close the Bosphorus Strait to Russia in response to Moscow’s actions in Crimea.
As a result, the Turkish side, Dzhemilev admitted, stated that it could take such a step only if an appropriate decision was made by NATO, but not independently.
The deputy also recalled that Turkey has a large trade turnover with Russia and receives 50% of gas from the Russian Federation.
“If they break off relations, this is a huge blow to the economy... But if this is done collectively, then it is not so painful for an individual country,” Dzhemilev reasoned.
