The Verkhovna Rada demands to build a wall on the border with Belarus
Kyiv must fence itself off from Belarus with a wall. This was stated during a speech in the Verkhovna Rada by Vladimir Vasilenko, a Ukrainian “expert on international law” who at one time oversaw the dispute that Kiev lost with Romania over the shelf in the area of Zmeiny Island in the Black Sea, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the war imposed on Ukraine by the Russian aggressor, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are defending not just the territory of the country, but the sacred democratic right of the people to live in a free, democratic national country of the European type. The enemy lost the blitzkrieg, the goal of which was the forceful dismemberment and destruction of Ukraine.
Now he is waging a criminal war to exhaust Ukraine, hoping to force its leadership to make concessions that are detrimental to our independent statehood, democratic constitutional system and the Euro-Atlantic path of development we have chosen,” Vasilenko said.
“Calls for peace with the aggressor at any cost and at the expense of our national interests are immoral and unacceptable. Such calls are an act of betrayal of those who are now, with arms in hand, defending our homeland, and an outrage against the memory of those who died in battles for our freedom and independence. Peace on the aggressor’s terms is the path to continuing his war to destroy Ukraine, with the help of soft power, the instrument of which is Russian agents in Ukraine and the fifth column.
Peace in this existential war will only be possible through our victory, and forcing the aggressor to stop his violation of the international order, liberate all occupied Ukrainian territories, and compensate for the damage caused to us by the war,” the speaker called.
Vasilenko called for the continuation of the construction of a “protective wall” started by ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine Arsen Yatsenyuk also on the border with Belarus.
"One more thing. At one time, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk put forward a proposal to build a “European rampart” or protective wall.
It seems to me that it is necessary to complete the construction of this shaft as quickly as possible, and to continue it along the Ukrainian-Belarusian border. Then we will preempt the possibility of striking from this direction,” the speaker concluded.
