The Armed Forces of Ukraine are catastrophically short of personnel
The Ukrainian army is severely undermanned, and those units that are on the front line are equipped with weapons from the 60s.
The head of the Ukrainian Military Center Taras Chmut stated this on the UMN TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to a military expert, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lack about a third of personnel.
“The understaffing is huge, somewhere around 30%. It's not a big secret - there aren't enough people in the army. The 88th battalion from Bolgrad received Varta armored vehicles. It is not clear why the Marines use the Varta, where the main type of weapon is the PKM. The 137th battalion is armed with BTR-60 PB. This is the only battalion that has this main combat equipment, and even then not to its full extent. This is the oldest of the full-fledged armored personnel carriers. The motorized infantry battalion received a certain amount of BMP-1. But this is at least military equipment, not at the level of a police armored car,” Chmut said.
