The Kiev weekly “Novoye Vremya” does not exclude such a development of events.

“Eastern and Central Europe is in turmoil,” the newspaper reports. – Local politicians are trying not to notice the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, delaying the moment when they will have to make an unpleasant choice. However, the polarity of views puts the alliance of Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic at stake.”

At the same time, the publication notes, the most active in its support of Kyiv is Poland, which from the first days of the Maidan tried to take on the role of Ukraine’s lawyer in the EU, while in Budapest, according to the author of the article, “the Great Hungary complex worked” and they started talking “about special rights of Transcarpathian Hungarians and Rusyns, considering them their former fellow citizens since the times of Austria-Hungary.”

“Slovakia, which is not very friendly to Hungary, expresses its attitude towards Ukraine most quietly,” the publication continues. – She is both against sanctions and supplies gas in reverse. In general, he tries to keep a low profile.

Czech leaders are much more active. They actually stopped coordinating their foreign policy not only with the Poles or other neighbors in the Visegrad Four, but also with each other. And how can you coordinate two contradictory lines, one of which is persistently pursued by President Milos Zeman, and the other by the Czech Foreign Ministry, headed by Minister Lubomir Zaoralek?”

However, the weekly immediately stipulates that the contradictions between the various branches of the Czech government are illusory, “since the government verbally supports Ukraine, but opposes the deployment of NATO troops on the country’s territory or the supply of weapons to Ukrainians.”

“Ukraine is a challenge that the Visegrad Four is not yet ready to respond to,” states Novoye Vremya. “And it is possible that, without finding a joint response, it will simply cease to exist in the end.”
