Yalta is ready to host the UN Security Council summit
Crimea is ready to host a meeting of the five countries participating in the UN Security Council in Yalta.
The head of the republic, Sergei Aksenov, told Izvestia about this, assessing the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who proposed holding a meeting of the leaders of countries, permanent members of the UN Security Council - China, France, Great Britain, the USA and Russia, in the year of the 75th anniversary of the victory over Nazism.
“Crimea is certainly ready to host such a meeting, and if there is a corresponding order from the president, the republic will fulfill it,” Aksenov said.
At the same time, he added that the issue is being considered only on a theoretical plane, since representatives of Western countries are not yet ready to meet in Crimea.
“Firstly, they are fixated on sanctions, and this is not the best ground for dialogue. Awareness of our own exclusivity and confidence in the West’s right to impose its will and its values on the world prevents our partners from adequately perceiving reality. Secondly, in the Western world today there are simply no political leaders comparable in personality to Roosevelt and Churchill,” the head of Crimea noted.
He also added that it does not matter where the meeting will be held, the main thing is that it revives the “spirit of Yalta.”
In turn, the permanent representative of Crimea to the President of the Russian Federation Georgy Muradov recalled that the Yalta Conference of 1945 laid the foundations of the modern world order. In his opinion, the new summit of the UN Security Council could become a symbolic continuation of this conference, so it should be held in the very place where Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill met 75 years ago - in the Livadia Palace.
“The Republic will gladly host the UN Security Council summit, our doors are always open. I am confident that holding such a meeting would determine a lasting world order that would ensure peace and security for all peoples for the next 75 years,” Muradov said.
However, the publication indicates that holding a summit at the UN General Assembly in New York in September 2020 looks possible for now. France and China have already supported the initiative of the Russian president, while the United States and Great Britain have not yet responded.
