In Yalta they stated that a new world war is closer than ever. All hopes lie only in nuclear deterrence
Moscow - Kyiv, February 5 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - The conference “Yalta-1945: past, present, future” began in the Crimea, in the Livadia Palace. Russian politicians, historians and foreign guests spoke about a new world war, the reason for which could be Ukraine.

The conference participants were divided into two camps. Some believe that in the conditions of the new world order, agreements between several world leaders, similar to those in Yalta, are impossible, others - that they are impossible without a new global conflict, writes Kommersant.
Sorbonne and Cambridge University professor John Lockland said that the agreements of February 1945 have undergone a complete revision and are no longer relevant. Speaking about the current confrontation between Russia and the United States around Ukraine, he said: “Western commentators, including from the European Union and the United States, are increasingly inclined in their statements to believe that the only way out of this geopolitical situation is war.”
Richard Sakwa, head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Kent, spoke about the tilt of world politics towards “New Atlanticism, in which Europe is assigned the role of only one of its elements,” and “Russia is an outcast in this system.”
The head of the Duma Education Committee, Vyacheslav Nikonov, recalled that the Nobel Committee is counting down the threat of war using nuclear weapons and the symbolic clock is currently set to an extremely high level of threat - three minutes to midnight. “The threat of war always exists. There was a terrible period of the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, but, perhaps, it was not worse,” he admitted. However, the deputy hopes that “nuclear weapons are a powerful deterrent for global players; nuclear powers are not attacked.”
