South Korea wants to nominate Trump for Nobel Peace Prize
US President Donald Trump should win the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts aimed at restoring peace on the Korean Peninsula, as well as its denuclearization, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated at a meeting of the South Korean government by the President of the Republic Moon Jae-in, who a few days ago first met with his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong-un and held negotiations with him.
The head of state also said that the Koreans “only need peace” and noted Trump’s high role in achieving it.
Earlier, US Senator Lindsey Graham came up with a similar initiative. He stressed that Trump could be nominated for the prestigious award if his actions push the parties to the confrontation on the Korean Peninsula to resolve the long-standing conflict. According to the senator, the US President made it clear to China and the DPRK that his intentions are extremely serious and he is committed to change. So far they have not been achieved, but if Trump’s expectations are met, he deserves to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. At the same time, as Graham said, Kim Jong-un will have to keep his promises on denuclearization, and breaking them would be a mistake. The politician emphasized that there will be “peace or war” between the DPRK and the United States.
Several of Trump's predecessors have received the above-mentioned award. Thus, the 44th US President Barack Obama received it for his contribution to strengthening international diplomacy and cooperation: the award was awarded to him in the fall of 2009. The 26th US President Theodore Roosevelt and the 28th President Woodrow Wilson also received the Peace Prize.
