Residents of settlements bordering Hungary are confident that the law is discriminatory and do not want to remove Hungarian flags from their homes.

“Take hold of flags when people don’t have salaries? When people are hungry, in poverty, pensioners do not have pensions, they have nothing to eat, and I think that working on flags is a waste of time. Today we need to take more care of people, so that they have a salary, so as not to increase gas and electricity every time. When there is a war in the state, taking care of flags is a waste of time,” said Nikolai Bogar, pastor of a church from Podvinogradovo, Vinogradovsky district.

Beregovo resident Maria agrees with him.

“What, is the flag in the way? No, it doesn’t interfere,” she says. – The Hungarians help us a lot. So, they give help to Hungarian schools, they give help to kindergartens. You can’t do this - we need peace, harmony and good for Ukraine.”

And the first deputy head of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, deputy chairman of the NGO “Society of Hungarian Culture” Josip Borto even assures that the bill proposed by Baloga violates the Constitution.

“In accordance with Article 6 of the current law of Ukraine on national minorities, which was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in 1992, the state guarantees the rights to national and cultural autonomy, to education in their native language and the use of national symbols to representatives of all national minorities. In accordance with Article 22 of the Constitution of Ukraine, when adopting new laws and amending existing laws, restricting the content and scope of rights and freedoms is not allowed. That is, if this right is currently guaranteed by the law of Ukraine, then it is not allowed to limit it by adopting a new law. Otherwise, the Constitution is violated,” Borto said.
