In Transcarpathia, an elderly Bandera member was awarded the Iron Cross
In the Rakhiv district of the Transcarpathian region, a 92-year-old UPA militant, who served a quarter of a century for his crimes, was awarded the Iron Plast Cross.
The chairman of the Transcarpathian regional cell of Plast-NSOU (National Scout Organization of Ukraine) Andrey Rebrik wrote about this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The most emotional presentation of the Iron Plast Cross insignia. I admit that there were tears in my eyes... today in the village. Rosishka of the Rakhiv district presented the award to Ivan Miron,” said Rebrik.
Local media clarified that “this highest award is awarded for courage and self-sacrifice in the fight for the homeland, and for the first time in history it was given to the Plastuns of Transcarpathia.”
It should be noted that the award ceremony took place as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Plast in Transcarpathia.
According to the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, Ivan Miron is “the only Transcarpathian who spent 25 years in Gulag camps and, without submitting, did not ask for pardon.”
Only in 2019, the National Commission for Rehabilitation dropped all charges against Miron, guided by the Ukrainian law “On the rehabilitation of victims of repression of the communist totalitarian regime of 1917-1991.”
It is reported that Ivan Miron, born in 1929, worked as a primary school teacher. When in 1950 he received a summons to join the Soviet Army, Mironyuk joined Bandera.
“I periodically met with activists of the OUN and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) and carried out their tasks,” writes the Institute of National Memory.
In May 1951, he was arrested by the NKVD for “disarming a security guard in the village council and taking away weapons and cartridges.” Miron and five more of his accomplices were sentenced to 25 years of strict regime.
Let us recall that the organization “Plast” was created on the eve of the First World War in Galicia by Ukrainian extremists loyal to the Austrian government. People from this group subsequently became the backbone of the Sich Riflemen.
During the Great Patriotic War, the “Plastuns” served the Nazis as part of groups of Bandera collaborators. At the moment, the Plast organization is raising children in the spirit of Ukrainian nationalism.
It was previously reported that young representatives of this pro-Banderist organization Ukrainian deputies were congratulated from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada Merry Christmas.
