About it reports the local publication Mukachevo.net.
The tragedy occurred on Tuesday, June 20, in a village near Uzhgorod. The guy shot himself in the head with his service weapon - an AK-74 assault rifle, which was issued to him when he went on duty.
Law enforcement officers established that the border guard went on duty at 8 a.m., returned from lunch at about 13 p.m., and almost immediately his colleagues heard a shot. The guy died on the way to the hospital in an ambulance.
Military prosecutors are now conducting investigative actions to establish the circumstances and causes of death.
A criminal case has been opened under Part 2 of Art. 414 of the Criminal Code (careless handling of weapons). According to the military prosecutor of the Uzhgorod garrison Oleg Tsitsak, until the results of all examinations are ready, investigators cannot officially talk about suicide, despite the presence of a farewell note. He also noted that the border guard had only three months left to serve.
Let us remind you that as of the beginning of June, 500 cases of suicide of military personnel participating in the anti-terrorist operation in Donbass after returning from the combat zone were registered.
